From the street to the school: Together forPakistan's disadvantaged children

Pakistan faces a tremendous challenge: millions of children have no access to adequate education. While there are both public and private schools, a deep divide exists between these two worlds. In the province of Punjab, for example, there are 2,000 public schools compared to 8,000 private ones — a glaring imbalance.
Public schools are often overcrowded, lack hygienic standards, have unacceptable class sizes, and scarce educational materials. As a result, many children are excluded from schooling, either because the nearest school is too far away or their families cannot afford the costs of attending.
The consequences are devastating: poverty, lack of prospects, and a missed opportunity for a better future.The reality for many children in Pakistan:

• Overcrowded classrooms: Learning under these conditions is hardly possible.
• Poor hygiene: A risk to children’s health.
• Lack of resources: Books, pens, and other learning materials are in short supply.
• Inaccessibility: Distance and costs prevent many children from attending school.
